For a bit of backstory, the Australian media has been going nuts for something called ClickFrenzy, a 24-hour only online sale spanning a large number of the biggest retailers in the country. The promotions have been red hot, and they have been telling us that they are expecting a lot of traffic, and they are prepared for that.
The sale started at 7pm tonight, and the site has been down now from then to now, which at the time of writing, is almost an hour. Already a Facebook page, Click Frenzy Fail, has attracted over 1,000 fans (which is catching up to the amount of numbers the actual ClickFrenzy Facebook page has), and complaints are flying.
I don’t think we should really be surprised though. We are light years behind the rest of the first world when it comes to things like this, and all this does is further reinforce that fact. What’s really funny about the situation is the fact that here in Australia, we have media stories all the time telling us that Australian retail is suffering, and they need people to stop turning to the internet, buying products from foreign websites.
Well, I’m sorry, Australian retailers. This was your big chance to lure your countrymen back onto Australian shores for their goods, and you fucked it up. You really, really fucked it up. If you can’t pull your head out of your arse and get the job done right, then too bad.
ClickFrenzy, fuck you.
