You all remember Haley Joel Osment right? That cute kid from ‘The Sixth Sense’ with the awesome acting chops? The kid who everyone thought had a great career ahead of him?
Yeah, that’s him! I’m sure at some point over the past 10 years you’ve also found yourself wondering “whatever happened to that guy?” Well, Dear Reader, luckily for you, I don’t fuck around, and I’ve done your homework for you.
Osment started acting at a very early age, his first major film appearance as a younger version of Forrest Gump in 1994’s ‘Forrest Gump’ (clearly). His rise to super-stardom came with 1999’s ‘The Sixth Sense’, the movie that also shot the name of über-douche M. Night Shyamalan into the stratosphere (who now has a real-life twist to his name that he never saw coming: successful director fucks up own career and becomes… shit director extraordinaire!). After the huge success in ‘The Sixth Sense’, Osment also scored big roles in ‘Pay It Forward’ with Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt and was chosen to star in ‘A.I. Artificial Intelligence’ from movie legend Steven Spielberg.
Then after that… what? A small movie role here, a voice in a video game there. What the fuck happened? Who knows? Maybe he lost interest in acting for awhile. Maybe his agent was really bad at his job. Maybe producers and casting agents took one look at his headshot and said “Oh yeah. I remember that kid. Not so cute now. Fuck it, bring in someone else. Is Macaulay Culkin still alive?”
Thing are looking bright for Haley Joel Osment (now 23 years old, by the way) in 2012, however. He has scored a role as Diedrich Bader’s gay lover (with the awesome character name Chip Hardy) in an indie film called ‘Sassy Pants’.
After that he’ll be playing the role of Victor Franklin in ‘Wake The Dead’, a re-imaging of the Frankenstein story. So who knows what’s next for Osment? Perhaps a sequel to ‘The Sixth Sense’, where he plays an older, drugged-to-the-eyeballs version of his same character, who chases the dragon to help chase away the ghosts. Watch the trailer for ‘Sassy Pants’ below, and let me know what you think.
