I hope this will be the first in a series of articles about those great shows that people have either forgotten about, or didn’t even know existed. For quite a lot of readers, this show may fall into the latter. Yes, for a brief period of time, Snoop Dogg had his own sketch show on MTV.
Airing for only 8 episodes back in 2002, ‘Doggy Fizzle Tellyvizzle’ was produced by and starred Snoop Dogg. It was created by Vernon Chatman and John Lee, who later went on to create one of the most hilarious and fucked-up shows of all time, ‘Wonder Showzen’.
Honestly, this show is much funnier than it has any right to be. It walks a fine line, because in the wrong hands, a show with as stupid a name as ‘Doggy Fizzle Tellyvizzle’ could just come across as trying way too hard, like when someone of the Baby Boomer generation tries to act like they’re still “down with the kids” using phrases like “Radical!” and “Cowabunga!” The show succeeds because of the great writing, and Snoop Dogg’s performance. The man has always been funny, but who knew that he could actually do this good a job.
Do yourself a favour and check out this show anywhere you can.
Fun fact: Vernon Chatman, co-creator of the show, is the voice of Towelie on ‘South Park!
I’ll leave you with this sketch from ‘Doggy Fizzle Tellyvizzle’: ‘The Negrotiator’.
